Wellspring House is located in Ashfield, a beautiful New England village set in the Massachusetts hills, east of the Berkshire Mountains. Ashfield is a haven from city bustle and suburban sprawl, offering both the peace and solitude of country life, with the connectedness and community spirit of a small neighborly town.
The Ashfield lake and beach are just across the street from Wellspring, ideal for a quick morning swim to reconnect to the body before a day of writing. The Ashfield Lake House is perfectly placed for an afternoon writing session overlooking the water. Watch the sunset on their deck, enjoy their weekly open mic and live music events, and partake of their varied cocktail and dinner menus.
A two minute walk down Main Street will bring you to Elmer’s, an Ashfield institution. Renowned for their delicious breakfasts and hearty burger-centric lunches, the general-store-turned-restaurant is now serving a Louisiana-inspired dinner menu overseen by a celebrated New Orleanian chef.
Also close by on Main Street is the Belding Memorial Library, complete with computer and Wi-Fi access. Country Pie Pizza, a great spot for a variety of baked goods, also has limited seating available for those looking to sit with coffee and a book. It’s practically Ashfield tradition to pay a visit to the Hardware Store next door to Country Pie, where, legend has it, they sell just about everything, including ice cream.
In addition to the lake, the town park has tennis courts, a basketball court, a playground, and ball fields. The quiet roads and country trails surrounding Wellspring are great for an invigorating jog out into the neighboring farm country.
Ashfield is a four hour drive from New York City, a two and a half hour drive from Boston, and only thirty minutes away from the college towns of Amherst and Northampton. The nearest grocer is fifteen minutes away, and it’s a thirty-forty minute drive for a supermarket.
